RIBS WITHIN Invades Nashville!
Ribs Within catered lunch at the legendary Sound Emporium recording studio, in Nashville, TN. Doug flew the BBQ from NJ to TN, to serve to singer Radney Foster, who was recording 2 songs for a new album. The lunch was sponsored by MPI - Music Producers Institute (www.musicpi.com). Also in attendance were Grammy winning producer Steve Fischell - director of MPI, award winning Engineer/Mixer Niko Bolas, producer Darrell Brown, and the staff and other attendees of MPI. Our 2008 Season Recap:
2008 was our sixth season of KCBS competition and we although we had some tough times with a difficult schedule, we ended up on a very positive note.
We started 2008 off in Yardley, PA, without Jonathan, in brutal 100 degree heat, and didn't fair so well. Our brisket problems from 2007 continued to plagues us.
Second was NJ State Championship in Wildwood, NJ. Bad brisket once again broke our hearts.
Next up was Monmouth County Cookoff in Freehold, NJ. We had a 5th in chicken and a 5th in pork and were 6th overall, a much better performance, but once again brisket problems cost us.
In August we once again competed in New Holland, PA. We had a 14th in Chicken and 8th in pork out of 72 teams. Brisket was bad again. Also in August, guest cheffing for Wildwood BBQ, NYC, we took a 2nd in Fish and 3rd in steak, and 3rd overall in the NEBS grilling at New Palz, NY
September brought King Pig, Bridgeton, NJ and another inconsistant performance. Our chicken, usually our strength, scored poorly and cost us.
Highlights from 2007 include
Pork in The Park, Salisbury, MD (61 Teams) brought great success. We had our best Ribs ever, 4th place. We also got a call for 10th in Brisket, for a 7th place overall, not as good as last year, but it was a tougher field this year.
In the Frank Perdue "Taste of Excellence" Chicken constest, Laura Keiles, acting as the Iron Pitmaster, created 6 magnificent smoked chicken egg rolls, beautifully displayed on a flower shaped plate. Those egg rolls won Ribs Within BBQ 1st Place - a Trophy, a check, our picture with Jim Perdue and our recipe posted on the Perdue Chicken Website (to be available after May 15th). We are very proud of Laura, so next time you see her, tell her "Nice Egg rolls".
East Hartford, Conn Reserve Grand Champion. A really solid cook, and second place behind I Smell Smoke. Calls in all 4 categories, and a 1st in chicken. Helped our friends Purple Turtle win the Saturday NEBS grilling.

2006's season was our greatest season. That success allowed us to be ranked tied for 33rd in the Team of the Year rankings for KCBS - Kansas City BBQ Society - and tied for 20th in Brisket, out of over 4000 teams.
2006 brought many accolades:
- Pork in the Park of Salisbury, MD -- 2nd Place Brisket and 5th out of 55 teams
- Barbecue on the River of Bristol, PA -- 2nd Place Pork and Grand Champion out of 34 teams
- Guitarbeque of Asbury Park, NJ-2nd Place Chicken and Brisket, 4th Place Pork and 3rd Overall out of 27 teams
- NJ State Championship of Wildwood, NJ -- 8th overall out of 30 teams with 5th place Brisket
- Cabelas of Hamburg, PA -- 2nd Place Chicken, 3rd Place Ribs, 5th Place Brisket and Reserve Grand Champion out of 40 teams.
- PA State Championship of New Holland, PA-3rd Place Pork and 3rd Place Brisket with 6th overall out of 72 teams!
- Hillsborough, NJ -- 1st Place Chicken, 3rd Place Ribs and Grand Champion out of 27 Teams
- HamiltonFest Rib Cookoff -- Finished 4th just cooking ribs.
- Diamond State of Dover, DE -- a tough competition, a bad back, and missing teammates all contributed to a mediocre 31st out of 60.
